Best time to visit
We regularly get the question “When is the best time to visit?” The birding,
hiking, mountain biking etc. is equally good all year round.
Since our climate varies very slightly there is very little effect on birds
by the changing of seasons. Along with this we get both northern and southern
migrant birds. Hence, at any time of the year a birder on a 5-day tour to
diverse habitats should get between 140 to over 200 birds. Our only recommendation
is that if you have been to Trinidad and Tobago already in January to March, which
is when most birders come, we would suggest returning in August or September to see
our southern wintering migrants and the northern fall migrants.
Mountain biking and hiking is easier in the dry season as there is less mud, but
there is something to be said about the greater challenge that the rainy season
brings, it reaps greater rewards.
Culturally there are events and festivals throughout the year due to our diverse
culture, races and religions. However, the premiere event is Carnival, which takes
place on the Monday and Tuesday before Ash Wednesday. This is usually between
mid February to mid March.
