CARONI WETLANDS KAYAK OR STAND UP PADDLE
CARONI WETLANDS KAYAK OR STAND UP PADDLE (SUP):
An amazing family fun half day of adventuring through the lush interior of Caroni Wetlands with your choice of kayaking or Stand Up Paddle, topped with the Scarlet Ibis.
For today's adventure we meet outside Grand Bazaar Mall for 2:15pm. A second meeting point is at Nanan's Bird Sanctuary Tours for 2:30pm, which is just off the Caroni Flyover, from which we will head to the Caroni Visitors' Centre where gear up and kayak into Caroni Swamp.
After gearing up we kick things off with paddling lessons to ensure all have basic techniques to get through the kayaking or SUP in the world famous wetland. We put in our kayaks and SUPs Northern edge of Caroni Swamp and your tour leader teaches the basics of paddling so we can go reasonably straight, LOL. Once we have learnt technique we take it to the water to get some practice, then it's into the swamp.
While paddling you may see Ospreys fishing, Caimans cruising, as the beautiful Wattled Jacana as it hops from lily to lily. Our kayak starts on a wide river as we head towards Blue River and the protected area. Once we enter the depth of this amazing wetland and the channels narrow to just wide enough for the kayaks into some areas only the kayaks and SUPs can go. We will look for many more beautiful birds, such as the spectacular Scarlet Ibis, Snowy Egrets, several types of Herons, and Ducks. If we are lucky we may see a Silky Anteater or Tree Boas.
We will end the day as we amaze at what is considered one of the world's top 5 birding sights; the Scarlet Ibis coming into roost at sunset. A boat to collect us and we will be driven back out.
SUPs are limited, so its "First Come, First Served". Book the SUP when you book the tour.
